Angel’s Envy
The Kentucky craft bourbon distillery of Angel’s Envy has launched the latest bottling in their experimental Distillery Series. The whiskey has been created by Owen Martin, the Master Distiller at Angel’s Envy. It uses whiskeys aged six and seven years. The majority has been finished for six to 24 months in ex-imperial stout beer barrels, with a smaller portion finished for one month in Brazilian amburana wood.
The Angel’s Envy Finished in Stout and Amburana Barrels is released at 50% ABV (100 Proof) and is restricted to just 1,800 375ml bottles. It will be exclusively available from September 10 at the distillery visitor centre shop on Whiskey Row, Louisville. Each bottle will cost US$55. Guests at the Kentucky Bourbon Festival, which runs from September 10 to 13, will have the chance to preview the whiskey with Martin.
Torabhaig
The Torabhaig distillery on the Hebridean island of Skye has announced an innovative new series of limited edition single malts. The Torabhaig Distillers’ Series has given complete creative control of production to their team of distillers from grain to glass. The series debuts with two whiskies, each the work of a single Torabhaig distiller and how they think about flavour. The series will continue with two launches each year.
The first two whiskies have been created by distillers Iona Macphie and Niall Culbertson. Iona’s First Edition features chocolate malt and early cut points on the still to maximise the chocolate notes in the spirit. It is released at 60.9% ABV. Niall’s First Edition features a percentage of brown malt and dark crystal malt in the mix, plus a lower level of peat smoke in the base malt than expected in Torabhaig. It is bottled at 59.3% ABV.
Both bottlings are non-chill filtered and of natural colour. They have both been released in 5,250 bottle batches. These will be available in selected world market, including the UK, from early September. Both will cost £75/ US$100/ €87.
