Loch Lomond

The Loch Lomond distillery has announced the release of two limited-edition Scotch single malts. These continue their longstanding partnership with The Open golf tournament. They will be available for tasting and purchase at the 154th Open championship. This takes place at Royal Birkdale near Liverpool in July. The two bottlings are named Loch Lomond Open Course Special Edition 2026 and Loch Lomond Open Course Collection 2026.

The Loch Lomond Open Course Special Edition 2026 has been initially matured in American oak ex-bourbon casks before a six-month finishing period in ex-Malbec red wine barrels from Argentina. It is bottled at 46% ABV and will cost £45.

The Loch Lomond Open Course Collection 2026 has been matured for 19 years in American oak ex-bourbon casks before a six-month finish in ex-Tawny Port casks from Portugal. It is released at 46.9% ABV and there are just 3,000 bottles in the batch. Each will cost £195.

Both whiskies have been created by Michael Henry, the Master Blender at Loch Lomond. They are both non-chill filtered and of natural colour. They are available now via the Loch Lomond website and selected UK and world retailers.

Nc’ nean

The Highland craft distillery of Nc’ nean has announced the latest bottling in its popular limited edition Huntress series. The series is inspired by Neachneohain, the Gaelic goddess who inspired Nc’nean’s name. Each release in the series explores possibilities within the spirit, with flavour development driven by fermentation and distillation rather than cask alone. The Nc’ nean Huntress Malted Teacake is the fifth release in the series.

Malted Teacake explores how fermentation and different yeast strains can shape the flavour of their organic spirit. The whisky is made with two of Nc’nean’s house yeast strains, plus a third strain commonly used in Belgian style ales. These trial began in 2017. The casks and ratios of each cask in the batch are 50% STR ex-red wine, 48% ex-bourbon, and 2% ex-Oloroso sherry.

Nc’ nean Huntress Malted Teacake is released at 48.5% ABV and is both non-chill filtered and of natural colour. There are just 4,391 bottles. These will be available via specialist whisky retailers in the UK and selected world markets from April 22. A bottle will cost £90.

Spirit of Yorkshire

The award-winning farm-to-bottle English distillery Spirit of Yorkshire has collaborated with The Whisky Shop to release a special single cask single malt. The whisky will join others as the distillery celebrates ten years of production in 2026. The single ex-Pedro Ximenez sherry cask was selected by Christopher Dunn, the store manager at The Whisky Shop’s York branch. He was aided by Joe Clark, the Whisky Director at Spirit of Yorkshire. It is bottled under their Filey Bay brand.

The Filey Bay Single Cask #3521 is released at the natural cask strength of 58.2% ABV and is both non-chill filtered and of natural colour. The spirit was distilled in November 2018. The single cask has yielded just 294 bottles. These will be on sale exclusively in The Whisky Shop’s 13 stores in England, plus via their website. Each bottle will cost £125.

Our single cask bottlings represent the rarest and most spectacular casks in our warehouse, with only a handful of these beautiful ex-Pedro Ximenez casks ever bottled by us. To bottle this whisky exclusively for The Whisky Shop in our tenth year of production and in celebration of a brilliant relationship is something we are immensely proud of.

Joe Clark.
