Review | Jameson Triple Triple Marsala Cask Edition

This new whiskey adds a Sicilian twist to the best-selling Irish whiskey brand’s Triple Triple travel retail exclusive range. It is the third bottling in the series and follows the Triple Triple Malaga Edition and Chestnut Edition. Triple Triple refers to the fact that each whiskey is triple distilled in the the traditional Irish style and then matured in three types of cask.

The Jameson Triple Triple Marsala Cask Edition is matured in a combination of ex-bourbon barrels, ex-Oloroso sherry casks, and Marsala casks sourced from Sicily. These have been hand-selected from the renowned Florio winery and released in time for St. Patrick’s Day 2025.

Jameson is owned by Irish Distillers Pernod Ricard and is produced at the Midleton distillery in Co. Cork. This was built in 1975 to replace the old Bow Street distillery in Dublin, which is now home to the brand’s visitor centre. This had been the brand’s home since John Jameson founded it in 1780.

Midleton makes both single grain and single pot still whiskeys with a combined capacity of 64 million litres per year. They produce Jameson, which is the best selling Irish whiskey in the world, plus other Irish Distillers brands such as Green Spot, Paddy, Power’s and Redbreast.

The Jameson Triple Triple Marsala Cask Edition is bottled at 40% ABV and is available now in selected global travel retail locations. A wider launch is expected for later in 2025. A bottle will cost £37/ €44/ US$46.

Our Tasting Notes

The colour is a deep coppery gold and the nose is rich, sugary and fruity. Aromas of green apple and fresh apricots mingle with brown sugar and sultana. Then come further aromas of sugar coated almond, pink marshmallow and a hint of dried tropical fruits. There is a savoury vibe in the background that tends towards earthy and mossy, plus some waxy wood polish and freeze-dried strawberry. It is all very enticing.

On the palate this whiskey is expressive, sweet and juicy. Rich notes of pink marshamallow and vanilla lead the way and give a creamy texture. There is also plenty of wood spice – this gives a warming depth and a very pleasant oaky and tannic dryness. Juicy plump sultana, demerara sugar and cocoa dusted raisin also mingle well with further notes of caramel and golden syrup.

Then comes dried apple and dried apricot, plus dried tropical fruit – think of papaya and mango especially. The earthy and woody spices wrap around everything to give extra complexity, while a hint of candied lime adds some late freshness.

The finish is long. The whiskey is confected and fruity yet surprisingly delicate. As these sumptuous elements fade, the warming and spicy characeristics come to the fore. The warmth builds with time and the woody tannins linger, yet it somehow maintains a vibrant and fresh feel.

What’s The Verdict?

This new Triple Triple expression is multi layered and superbly complex. It is sweet and confected, yet retains freshness and is very moorish. The whiskey feels undeniably Irish but with a fabulous twist of the Marsala cask. Jameson have taken something well known and recognisable, but that offers something different for travellers.

It is fresh and Spring-like, and you go on a journey with this whiskey – the nose is bold and fruity, then the palate is sweet yet juicy and fresh, with a long and warming finish. The price is also great and you get plenty of whiskey for your money. An early contender to make our Top 10 Whiskies of the Year list for 2025.
