Welcome to Inbox, our weekly round-up of whisky news and PR material that has found its way into our WFE email. Inbox features items from around the world of whisky and is published by us each Friday. Here is this week’s whisky news …

Big Peat

The Islay blended malt of Big Peat, which is owned by independent bottler Douglas Laing & Co, has revealed a special limited edition for the annual Islay festival. The Big Peat Fèis Ìle 2025 Edition has been bottled as a 2010 Vintage. All the whiskies included are single malts from Islay distilleries, and were distilled and filled to cask in 2010. They have all been matured in re-fill ex-bourbon hogshead casks.

The new whisky will be on sale during the 10-day Islay festival, which begins tomorrow (May 24), and via selected specialist whisky retailers worldwide. The Big Peat Fèis Ìle 2025 Edition is bottled at 50% ABV and is both non-chill filtered and of natural colour. The exact number of bottles in the small batch release was not revealed in the press release. Each bottle will cost £70/ €84.

Jura

In a similar vein to Big Peat, the island distillery of Jura have announced their limited bottling for the Islay Festival. The Jura Fèis Ìle 2025 Edition is bottled from a single ex-Oloroso sherry butt, Cask #1895. The cask was distilled and filled in September 2007. The bottle will be on sale from today (May 23) at the distillery until sold out. The annual Jura open day is on Friday 30 May this year.

Lochlea

The farm-to-bottle Lowland distillery of Lochlea have announced the latest bottling in their annual cask strength series. The Lochlea Cask Strength Batch 3 is the first in the series to combine peat-influenced spirit with ex-sherry casks. It also represents the first bottling curated by Jill Boyd, the Master Blender at Lochlea, who joined the team in late-2024.

Tamdhu

The Speyside distillery of Tamdhu has launched a new small batch whisky into its core range – the Tamdhu 21 Years Old. The new whisky follows the bold house style of other releases and has been solely matured in ex-Oloroso sherry casks for the full duration. It is bottled at 47.5% ABV and is on limited allocation to specialist retailers globally and via www.tamdhu.com. A bottle will cost £299.

This latest release is a fine example of our commitment to the Spain-to-Speyside journey that every Tamdhu expression benefits from. Oloroso Sherry Casks from Spain deliver excellence for our whisky and help make this brand, produced in one of the most unspoilt parts of Scotland, uniquely refined in flavour.
