Glengoyne
The Highland distillery of Glengoyne has announced the third bottling in The Oak Masters’ Series – the Glengoyne Mizunara Oak 16 Years Old. This follows the White Oak launched last year and White Oak 24 Years Old from earlier this year. The new limited edition bottling has seen initial maturation for 10 years in a combination of first-fill ex-sherry and re-fill ex-bourbon casks. Then a lengthy secondary maturation in rare Mizunara Japanese oak casks for six years.

The Glengoyne Mizunara Oak 16 Years Old is bottled at the natural strength of 53.4% ABV and is limited to just 3,195 bottles. It is both non-chill filtered and of natural colour. It has already been awarded a coveted Double Gold Medal at the International Spirits Challenge 2025. The whisky is available in selected global markets through specialist whisky retailers and via www.glengoyne.com. Each bottle will cost £300.
Glenmorangie
The north Highland distillery of Glenmorangie has released a new premium single malt that has been a quarter of a century in the making – Glenmorangie The Altus 25 Years Old. The new whisky will sit at the pinnacle of the famous distillery’s core range of single malts. It features the majority of maturation in classic American oak ex-bourbon casks, with a small pocket of this matured in ex-Madeira wine casks. It is the brandchild of Dr. Bill Lumsden, the Director of Whisky Creation for Glenmorangie. Altus translates as ‘high’ from Latin.

Glenmorangie The Altus 25 Years Old completes a trio of flagship expressions in the Distillery’s core range. It sits alongside Glenmorangie The Original 12 Years Old and Glenmorangie Infinita 18 Years Old. It is available in specialist whisky retailers globally, as well as from the Distillery Visitor Centre in Tain and via glenmorangie.com. The new whisky is bottled at 43% ABV and will cost £550.
Scotch Malt Whisky Society
The Scotch Malt Whisky Society has released the fourth instalment in its sought-after Creators Collection – Tales Of The Worm Tub: Celebrating The Bold, The Rich And The Robust. The trio of whiskies pay homage to the old-school approach to whisky making and the three bottles from Speyside each offer a distinct take on the worm tub. The worm tub is a traditional style of condenser, which only a few distilleries in Scotland still have.

Cask No. 76.157: Behold the Beast is an 18-year-old whisky from a distillery known for its unique approach to distillation. It has been fully matured in a single first-fill ex-Oloroso sherry butt. It is bottled at 54.3% ABv and will cost £155. Cask No. 44.190: Unleash the Serpent is bottled at 21 years of age. It has spent 18 years in an ex-bourbon hogshead before being transferred to a first-fill hogshead for the remainder of its maturation. It is bottled at 56.4% and will cost £165. Cask No. 36.228: The Snaking Coil is a single 28-year-old first-fill American oak ex-Pedro Ximenez sherry hogshead. It is bottled at 47% ABV and will cost £220.
Worm tubs are rare in modern whisky production, but add a deep and robust bass line, upon which the complex elements of each dram can be built. We’re giving whisky fans a chance to get off the beaten track to explore a lesser known element of whisky tasting.
Euan Campbell, Head of Whisky Creation at The SMWS.
The trio launch today (15 August), and can be purchased as a set or individual bottles from . A three-dram flight of the whiskies will also be available in all SMWS Members’ rooms for £53. All are non-chill filtered and of natural colour.
