Welcome to Inbox, our weekly round-up of whisky news and PR material that has found its way into our WFE email. Inbox features items from around the world of whisky and is published by us each Friday. Here is this week’s whisky news.

Bruichladdich

The Islay distillery of Bruichladdich has launched X4+18 Edition 01. This is the world’s first quadruple-distilled 18-year-old single malt Scotch whisky. The liquid was distilled by the legendary Jim McEwan MBE in 2006 during his stint as Distillery Manager. It has been more recently nurtured by the current incumbent Adam Hannett. The spirit has been matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-Riversaltes red wine barrels.

Quadruple distillation dramatically reduces the output of the stills. For example, a regular week’s production at Bruichladdich yields around 200 casks worth of spirit. This drops to just 30-40 when distilled four times. Bruichladdich X4+18 Edition 01 is the first of a planned four-part series that will explore radical distillation techniques and cask exploration. The whisky has been bottled at 63.5% ABV, having first entered the casks in 2006 at 85% ABV.

The X4+18 Edition 01 comes in Bruichladdich’s premium Luxury Re/Defined bottle, made with recycled glass. It is labelled with a contemporary design from creative agency Thirst. The vibrant label features four abstract graphic elements, representing the whisky’s journey through the stills. There are just 2,400 bottles and these will be on sale from late November in selected world markets. Each will cost £225/ US$295.

Glengoyne

The Highland distillery of Glengoyne has announced the latest edition in its popular annual Teapot Dram series. The Glengoyne Teapot Dram Batch No. 011 is bottled at the natural cask strength of 59.7% ABV and is also of natural colour. The new bottling has been overseen by Robbie Hughes, the Distillery Manager at Glengoyne. It is exclusively matured in nine first-fill ex-sherry casks (European oak butts, European oak hogsheads and American oak hogsheads).

The series is based on an old distillery tradition where workers received drams of whisky three times a day, Some workers chose not to drink whilst working and took to pouring their share into a copper teapot. Over time, the whiskies combined in the teapot, which was left on the canteen windowsill to enjoy at a later date. The Glengoyne Teapot Dram limited edition bottling was created in tribute to this practice, which ceased in the 1970s.

The Glengoyne Teapot Dram Batch No. 011 is limited to just 3,000 bottles. These are available exclusively from the Glengoyne distillery shop and via glengoyne.com. A bottle will cost £125.

Tamdhu

The Speyside distillery of Tamdhu has released a new limited edition single malt to celebrate the forthcoming Chinese New Year in early 2026. The Tamdhu Year Of The Horse 2026 Edition has been solely matured in ex-Oloroso sherry casks and is limited to just 300 bottles. The whisky is presented in special packaging that features illustrations from acclaimed artist Page Tsou. This depicts a jockey and steed trotting past the Dalbeallie railway station at the Tamdhu distillery.
