Welcome to Inbox, our weekly round-up of whisky news and PR material that has found its way into our WFE email. Inbox features items from around the world of whisky and is published by us each Friday. Here is this week’s whisky news.

Glencadam

The east Highland distillery of Glencadam has launched a new limited edition single malt – the Glencadam Réserve de Calvados 17 Years Old. The new whisky has been initially matured in American oak ex-bourbon casks before being finished in ex-Calvados apple brandy barrels. These were sourced from Normandy, France. It is bottled at 46% ABV and is both non-chill filtered and of natural colour. There are just 6,360 bottles. Each will cost £140/ US$188.

The launch is the first to show a refreshed packaging design. This bottling will be joined by three other expressions from the core range in the coming months. This will include the 10 Years Old, 15 Years Old and Reserva PX. The updated appearance is designed to showcase Glencadam’s premium global positioning and add a modern touch to the brand. The labels and exterior packaging feature hand-drawn illustrations by Edinburgh-based artist Andrew Davidson, known for his work on the Harry Potter book series,

House of Hazelwood

The House of Hazelwood, which is owned by William Grant & Son, has announced a new series of whiskies and the inaugural bottling in that series. The Warehouse Reserve Series is dedicated to whiskies sourced from the Gordon family’s private dunnage warehouse in Dufftown, Speyside. It kicks off with a heavily sherried 36 Years Old blended malt.

This collection will only feature ‘the most exceptional’ whiskies. The House of Hazelwood Warehouse Reserve Batch One is bottled at the natural cask strength of 51.4% ABV and is both n on-chill filtered and of natural colour. There are just 150 bottles. It is available by invitation only to friends of House of Hazelwood. A bottle will cost £1,650/ US$2,210.

This first Warehouse Reserve bottling represents the essence of our private stock – casks that have been nurtured for decades and held back until their character becomes unmistakably special. And for generations, this is how these private stocks were used – for gifting and sale by invitation only to friends and guests of the family. It feels like reopening a family album.
