Here is this week’s whisky news.
Archie Rose
The Australian distillery of Archie Rose has announced the third bottling in its experimental limited edition Smoked Cask Series. This year’s offering from the Sydney-based spirits maker has seen oak barrels smoked with cinnamon. This was carefully monitored so that the cinnamon did not burn and introduce any unwanted characteristics to the oak. The previous two releases were the Wattleseed Smoked and Juniper Smoked.

Archie Rose is Australia’s most awarded whisky brand and this series was designed to explore how smoky flavours can be introduced other than from smoking the grain. The Archie Rose Cinnamon Smoked Cask is released at 51.9% ABV and is limited to just 495 bottles. It is both non-chill filtered and of natural colour. It is exclusive to the distillery’s website – www.archierose.com.au. A bottle will cost AU$199.
Eden Mill
The independent Fife distillery of Eden Mill has announced details of their annual limited edition Art of St. Andrews bottling. The Eden Mill Art of St. Andrews 2025 Edition takes inspiration from the birth of Eden Mill, where it was a brewery before any spirit was distilled. The brewery’s first been was named The Clock and was made using brown crystal malt. This whisky has been made using the same malt. Scott Ferguson, the Head Distiller at Eden Mill, began experimenting and making new make spirit with brown crystal malt in 2018.

The brown crystal malt spirit was filled to first-fill ex-bourbon barrels at the time. Then earlier this year, it was transferred to ex-Amontillado sherry casks for a finishing period. As with each previous bottling, Eden Mill has collaborated with a local artist for the packaging design. This year sees artwork from Deborah Phillips, who is known for her vibrant and evocative style of painting, which includes natural items such as leaves stuck to the canvas.
The Eden Mill Art of St. Andrews 2025 Edition is released at 46.5% ABv and is both non-chill filtered and of natural colour. It is available via www.edenmill.com and at the distillery shop in Fife. A bottle will cost £150 – this includes a free classic whisky tour of the distillery for two, worth £52, for the first 100 orders.
